Abstract
This research is about Feedback used by teacher in teaching writing recount text at SMA N 1 Medan. The main objectives of this study are: (1) To identify the types of corrective feedback used by teachers in teaching writing recount text. and (2) to describe how the implementation of corrective feedback applied by taechers in teaching recount text writing. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. In this study, the English teacher and student became the subject and source of data collection. techniques used were observation, and interview. The data were examined using the theory by Ellis (2009). The findings of the study showed that (1) Teacher used five strategies out six strategies listed by Ellis (2009) namely Direct Feedback, Indirect Feedback, Metalinguistic Feedback, Focused Feedback
and Unfocused Feedback, Reformulation Feedback.(2) Teacher used a scientific approach to describe how teacher implemented corrective feedback in learning. Teacher provided correction based on the teacher’s handbook of empiricalstudies on written feedback and come up with a typology of choices for correcting corrective feedback in writing and strategies for providing easy to understand
feedback at the learning stage.
