Abstract

This study focuses on the development of flashcard media using Ariana Grande's songs to improve the vocabulary skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Al Washliyah 20 Medan. The rationale behind this research is the need to innovate
the vocabulary teaching strategies to engage students more effectively. The objective of the research is to create an engaging learning tool that enhances vocabulary acquisition, particularly "Expressions of Likes and Dislikes," using
popular songs. The study follows the Research and Development (R&D) methodology, employing the ADDIE model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The data were collected from the pre-tests and post-tests involving 15 students. The results showed a significant improvement in vocabulary skills, the pre-test score of 44 increasing to
88.67 after using the flashcard media. The N-Gain score of 0.806 indicates high effectiveness. The study concludes that incorporating multimedia elements, such as songs, into flashcards can significantly enhance student motivation and
vocabulary acquisition. This research supports the use of music as a valuable tool in language instruction.
