Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop writing descriptive text materials for
seventh grade students of SMP Al-Hidayah Medan. This research was conducted
by using Research and Development (R&D) from Gall and Borg (2003) theory with
some modifications, consisting gathering information and data, need analysis,
designing the product, validating the product by expert , revising the product and
final product. The data was taken from the observing the syllabus and the existing
material used by the teacher, distributing questionnaire for 34 students of SMP Al-
Hidayah Medan, questionnaire for validator, and interviewed one English teacher.
The product of this study is a set of writing materials entitled “Have Fun Writing”
A supplementary writing descriptive text for seventh grade students. The product
consist of three units, “My Classmate”, “Looking for Favorite Thing”, and
“Uncle’s Farm”. The materials of each unit were designed in accordance to the
students’ need by using Scientific Approach linked to C2P Strategy. The product
has been validated by the first expert with score 3.25 and 3.73 from the second
expert which is in the range of 3.50 < x ≤ 4.00 and can be categorized as “very
good”.
