Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze the types of teaching style of the English teachers in teaching speaking for eleventh grade students at SMAS MARS Pematang Siantar and to analyze the reason of teaching style that teachers
implemented in teaching speaking for eleventh grade students at SMAS MARS Pematang Siantar. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data was gathered trough the observation while the teacher conduct
the teaching in the class, interviewed the English teachers, and video recording in order to find out the teaching style that implemented by the English teachers. The study’s result is the English teachers implemented 3 teaching style namely the personal model style, the facilitator style and the delegator style in teaching speaking at SMAS MARS Pematang Siantar. Each English teacher implemented 2 teaching style. Teaching style is patterns of needs, beliefs and behavior shown by the teacher in the classroom (Grasha, 2002). According to Grasha teaching style divide into 5 type: (a) the expert style, (b) the personal model style, (c) the formal authority style, (d) the facilitator style, (e) the delegator style.
