Abstract
This thesis explored the impact of using blanked pop song lyrics on listening comprehension among eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Percut Sei Tuan. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study involved classroom observations, student interviews, and reflective journals to gather in-depth insights into students' experiences and perceptions. Findings revealed that the use of pop songs not only increased student engagement but also fostered a deeper
understanding of listening skills, vocabulary, and cultural context. Thematic analysis identified key themes, including motivation, enjoyment, and the relevance of music in language learning. This study highlighted the effectiveness
of integrating popular culture into language instruction, providing valuable implications for educators aiming to enhance listening comprehension with innovative methods.
