Abstract

The purpose of conducting this research were to investigate the types of verbal interaction used by the teacher and the student in classroom interaction based on FIACS at MTsN 2 Medan academic year 2023/2024. There were a teacher and a
total of 32 student of class VII/2. This study was a qualitative and used observation and interview to collect the data. There were found the results of this study, first,
the classroom interaction was dominated by the teacher with the total of 64.97%. The teacher mostly used Asking Question with 21.66% in the classroom. The percentage of Student Talk was 35.03% with Student Talk Response 20.38% as the most frequent type used in the classroom. There were found eight reasons of teacher used teacher’s talk in classroom. Those were, To control/discipline, To give feedback, To praise, To ask for information, To give information, To check or test
student understanding, To provide example of target language, and To maintain a good atmosphere.
