Abstract
Vocabulary is needed to construct a sentence and represent a unit of meaning.English songs are one of the numerous teaching media available today for teaching vocabulary to students. The aim of this research were to figure out the
students’ responses to learning English vocabulary through songs and discover the steps used by the teacher in teaching and learning English vocabulary through songs for the fifth year students at SDN 107417 Sei Merah. This research used a
qualitative research. The subject of this research was an English teacher and students at fifth grade. The researcher used questionnaire, interview, and observation to collect the data. The results showed that students gave positive
responses to learning English vocabulary through songs. Students feel more at ease and enjoy the teaching and learning process in a positive environment. The researcher also discovered that the teacher had not followed all the basic procedures of applying song in teaching vocabulary by Kuran Puasa (2013). The steps that did not applied by teacher are divide the students into pairs and circle the correct answer. After all, using songs to teach and learn vocabulary was an excellent way.
