Abstract
A learning strategies has been examined in this research. This research aims to identify the type of learning strategy used by students to speaking anxiety on grade 8A and 8B at SMPN 13 Medan and how are the learning strategies realized in learning process. The data were collected from servation and depth interview wit the students. The findings in this research found out that 12 students among 35 students or as many 42% are reluctant to start the speaking performance, some students as many 10,5% also looked blushed, as many 17,5% students wiping their hair or scratching their head, as many 7% students silent and bow before speaking, as many 10% students frequently looking down and up or move their body to the right and left, and as many 13% students looks tense. And based on the observation and interview with the students. The researcher aclassifies some categories about heastrategies thatawere usedaby the studentsato speaking anxiety which are preparation, relaxation, positive thinking, peer seeking, and self-entertaining. Furthermore, the strategies realized when students start feeling anxiety to speaking, so they are anticipate by used the learning strategies above to handle their anxiety.
