Abstract

This research was aimed at observing classroom observations regarding the types
of students' difficulties in reading and interpreting procedural texts. The
researcher uses the Syaukani 2018 theory which states that research is permitted
in observing student behavior, so in this research we observe classroom learning
process activities regarding reading comprehension in the classroom. In this
research, the location of school was SMP N 1 Satu Atap Tinada and focused on 1
class totaling 27 students where the research results were as many as This research
was aimed to know the types of students’ difficulties in reading procedure text at
grade IX of SMP N 1 Satu atap tinada ,and to know the reason why students
realize the difficulties as the way they do. In this study focused on 1 class totaling
27 students where the results of the research were that 17 students had difficulty
reading procedural texts due to interlingual factors while 10 students had
difficulty reading procedural texts due to intralingual factors, then the researcher
using the theory of Klinger, Sharoon, and Alison who divided the reasons for
difficulties for students as follows: 6 students had difficulty reading procedural
texts because they did not have knowledge and mastery of vocabulary, 7 students
had difficulty reading because they felt they did not understand the structure and
grammar of English and 14 students felt Difficulty reading due to feeling that
English has never been introduced since childhood and feeling that English does
not need to be studied too much because it has a different culture.
