Abstract
This research and development aims to determine the suitability of the media big
book based on local wisdom to improve basic literacy, (2) knowing the
practicality of media big book based on local wisdom to increase basic literacy,
and (3) to determine the effectiveness of the media big book based on local
wisdom to improve basic literacy. Data collection techniques by collecting various
information through observations at the research location, interviews with class
teachers, questionnaires to test material suitability and media suitability, teacher
response questionnaires, questionnaires for students used when testing products in
small groups and tests to assess the effectiveness of use media big book and
increasing reading and writing literacy. Media big book This was developed and
then tested for feasibility by material experts and media experts. Then, after being
tested for suitability by a validator, the product was tested on 12 students for small
group testing using a student response questionnaire. To see the practicality, we
also used a response questionnaire from teachers and students in real classes or
large groups with 32 research subjects. Then proceed with the effectiveness test.
In the effectiveness test, pre-test and post-test assessments are carried out based
on student learning outcomes by answering questions and carrying out practical
reading and writing activities. The research results show that in the feasibility test
before the revision was carried out, the average percentage of assessment by
material experts was 72% and obtained a percentage of 78% after the revision was
carried out in the feasible category. The feasibility test assessment by media
experts obtained a percentage of 76% before the revision and a score of 84% after
the revision was carried out in the very feasible category. In the practicality test
using the teacher response questionnaire, a percentage of 90% was obtained in the
very practical category. Student effectiveness for reading literacy in the pre-test
was 59,06% and 89,37% in the post-test, while for writing literacy in the pre-test
it was 63,56% and 84,84%% in the post-test. The gain score is 0.74 in the high
category. Thus, media development big book based on local wisdom can improve
basic literacy and is very effective both in terms of use and presentation.
