MEANINGS OF METAPHORICAL EXPRESSION IN 5 SECOND OF SUMMER SONGS

A metaaphor is a figure of speech that applies a statement to an untrue concept.
Figurative language is frequently used in songs since the lyrics are skillfully
written. The goals of this study are to identify the many sorts of metaphors found
in 5 Second of Summer song lyrics and to interpret each metaphor's intended
meaning. In this study, descriptive analysis and qualitative methods were
combined to provide an analytical description of the research issue. Using George
Lakoff and Mark Johnson (1980), the metaphor in a song by 5 Second of Summer
was examined. According to the findings of this study, the structural metaphor by
Lakoff is more prevalent than the total collection of conceptual metaphors in the
lyrics of 5 Second of Summer songs. By swapping out the term concept for a
different concept from a well-known structural metaphor, the meaning of the
metaphor in these songs often refers to the feelings, the singer, or anything else.
The research has implications for understanding and appreciating the metaphorical
element in common language as well as the pedagogical element.
