Abstract
This study was aimed to analyze kind of mind mapping strategy that used by the
teacher and analyzing how the teacher applied mind mapping strategy in teaching
writing procedure text. This study was carried out at SMA Negeri I Tanjung
Morawa in class X Merdeka 3 in academic year 2023/2024. Qualitative design was
used in this study, where the data was taken from observation, interview and
questionnaire. The teacher used brace map strategy, because the structure of brace
map was very suitable for procedure text material. Brace map consists of one object
to be written and that one object was divided into three parts, in the procedure text
material consist of an object to be written, the goal to be achieved, the ingredients,
and the steps. There were five steps the teacher implemented mind mapping strategy
in writing procedure text, First, the teacher prepare a title or an object to be drawn.
Second, teacher directly draw an object that has been determined. Third, the teacher
divide it into three parts. Namely: goals, ingredients and steps. Fourthly, the teacher
fill in each of the three sections on detail and added linesconnections. And the
procedure text has been completed. It can be concluded that the mind mapping
strategy was very suitable to be applied to procedure text material, because mind
mapping makes it very easy for students to compose procedure text and does not
make students boring.
