Abstract
This study is a research on developing translation teaching materials using
textbooks on Recount Text material at SMP NEGERI 1 SIANTAR. This study aims
to improve students' translation skills using textbooks as the leading learning media.
The development of this teaching material is expected to help students improve
their translation skills for understanding Recount Text material. Participants in this
study were 28 students of class VIII of SMP NEGERI 1 SIANTAR. This study uses
a research and development design with the ADDIE model developed by Molenda
and Reiser (2003). This study was conducted through 5 main stages: (1) Analysis,
which aims to determine the initial needs in carrying out development. (2) Design
is a stage that aims to carry out a design according to the needs in the analysis stage.
(3) Development is a product test by expert validators. (4) Implementation and
distribution of products that have been developed. (5) Evaluation and product
improvement based on the results of all previous stages. Teaching materials were
validated using a questionnaire distributed to 2 validators, including Dr.
Masitowarni Siregar, M.Ed. (Lecturer of English Education, State University of
Medan) and Kristonny Panjaitan (English Teacher of SMP NEGERI 1 SIANTAR).
With the results of the assessment by the validator, the development of translation
teaching materials on recount text material using textbooks is feasible and valid for
use in English learning for grade VIII students at SMP NEGERI 1 SIANTAR
