Analysis Of Maxim Violations In The Batman 2022 Movie By Matt Reeves

This study aimed to identify the types of violation of maxims in The Batman (2022) movie using Grice‟s theory and find out the reasons why the characters violates the maxim using Khosravizadeh‟s theory. The data were taken from the
movie script that contained the dialogue of the characters in the entire movie. This study uses uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher found 30 data,
specifically maxim of relation about 33% maxim of manner 30%, quantity 27%, and quality (0%. In term of reasons, satisfying the hearer is the most reason that leads the guests to violate the maxims. In 30 data found, discussing self-interest as the most dominant reason in about 43% because the characters choose to talk on it is own interest rather than the topic of conversation. Then followed by protracting the answer in 23%, avoiding the discussion 13%, hiding the truth 6%, avoiding to hurt the hearer 3%,convincing the hearer 6%, and saving fave 3%.
