Developing English Reading Material of Descriptive Text for Grade X of Hotel Accommodation Program at SMK Negeri 7 Medan

This study aims to develop descriptive text reading materials for grade X studentsof the Hotel Accommodation Program at SMK Negeri 7 Medan. This research uses the Research and Development Method (R&D) proposed by Gall, Gall, & Borg (2003) and went through five steps namely: (1) Collecting the data, (2) Analyzing the students' needs, (3) Designing and developing reading materials, (4) Evaluating
the result of the developed reading materials to experts, and (5) Revising and validating reading materials (Final Product). The data of this research were the result of the students’ questionnaire, the existing reading material of descriptive text, and the experts' assessment. The source of data was the students of grade X in Hotel Accommodation Program at SMK Negeri 7 Medan, the English Textbook titled ''English in Mind 2nd Edition Grade 10'', and the English experts. In collecting the data, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to 35 students of grade X in the Accommodation Hotel Program, observation, and assessment questionnaire to English experts. From the results of the needs analysis, it is confirmed that students need English reading materials with topics related to Hotel Accommodation
Program. The final product was validated by experts with an average score 4.5 from an English lecturer and 4.7 from an English teacher. Indicates that the reading material developed is included in the ‘’Very Good’’ category based on expert judgment.
