Abstract

This research aims to find out whether there is an influence of the PBL on junior high school students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. Problem-solving ability in this research is ability of students to solve contextual problems in Number Pattern topic. This research is quantitative research using quasi-experimental analysis and Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design experimental design. The population in this study were all students at SMP 35 Negeri Medan with samples taken from VIII-6 as control class being taught using the conventional model and VIII-7 as experiment class taught using Problem-Based Learning model. The data collection technique is an essay test of problem-slving ability in the form of a pre-test and post-test. Testing the requirements for this data analysis is a normality test and homogeneity test where the results show that the data is normally distributed and homogen. To test the hypothesis in this research using the independent sample t-test using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 26. The t-test results from output shows a calculated t-value of 12.214 with a significance of 0.000. Because the significance is and ( ) ( ), then is rejected and is accepted. So, it can be concluded that there is an effect of Problem-Based Learning model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 35 Medan.
