Abstract
This study was aimed to explain how the teachers used of Problem Based Learning in teaching writing recount text and why did the teachers apply problem based leaning in teaching writing recount text for tenth-graders. The Study was carried out using a descriptive qualitative method. The data for this research was gathered from English teachers who teach text at SMA BudiSatrya. The data collection techniques encompassed in this research involved observation, audio recording and interviews. The research results indicated that, the application of Problem based learning in teaching writing recount text was well done. The teacher implemented Problem-Based learning based on the stages from the expert.
The five stages are Student orientation to the problem, organizing students to study, Guiding individual and group investigation, Develop and present the work, Analyze and evaluate the problem-solving process. The reasons of Applying Problem-Based Learning were, (1) to make the lesson more engaging and relavant to his students in order to helps students able to connect with the topic and also active their knowledge based on the subject matter, (2) to help students understand the text better by discussing it together, and also promotes critical thinking, (3) to understand what difficulties they were facing, (4) to helps them improve their public speaking and communication skills, (5) to assess how well they grasped the material and to encourage them to think about and express their own interpretations.
