Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the vocabulary master at the Ninth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 15 Medan. Students used the Word Up application as a platform for their vocabulary mastery development and then this study investigates the impact on the students’ vocabulary mastery. This study used a descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this study was one class of Ninth-Grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Medan. This study used student progress that has been recorded in application and Interviews from the questionnaire in collecting the data. There were 30 students
as a sample in this research from ninth grade. Every student made one application account based on their data. The application gave the vocabulary to learn according to students’ levels and it is recorded when student create their accounts. The findings of this study showed that there were, (1) a total an average of 257 vocabulary were known by students in the first week of application usage and they created an assumption of calculation that students would have 1000 vocabulary in a month of application usage. (2) Students had good perception of vocabulary in English as shown by the percentage 76.3% from Table 1 in the questionnaire. There are 8 questions in Table 1, they realized that vocabulary was a fundamental knowledge that students had acquired in English. (3) Students had a good perception of the Word Up application in their vocabulary mastery and it showed with a percentage of 77.2% from Table 2 in the questionnaire sheet with 10 statements in the table, which means students’ were helped with the Word Up application even though still with some evaluation.
