TEACHER'S TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILL AT SMP N 24 MEDAN

This research is about the teacher's technique in teaching speaking skill in grade
seven at SMP N 24 Medan. The objectives of this research are to analyze the
technique used by the teacher in teaching speaking at SMP N 24 Medan and to
find out the reason of the teacher using those techniques in teaching speaking skill
at SMP N 24 Medan. The research design of this research is qualitative research.
The research data were taken from observation and interview with an English
teacher using a voice recorder. In analyzing the data, the researcher used data
reduction, data display, drawing conclusions, and verification. The result of this
research is that the teacher’s technique found in teaching speaking skills in grade
seven at SMP N 24 Medan is the authentic materials technique. The kind of
authentic materials that used by the teacher is a short learning video and an
English kid's song about greeting. Then, the teacher’s reason for using the
technique was to adapt to the learning interests of students who are still in the first
stage of junior high school and to increase student achievement.
