Abstract

This study aims to determine students' ability to write descriptive text with
vocabulary, mechanics and organization. The population of this study was class
VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan. The sample of this research was
class VIII -11 which was taken by purposive sampling technique with a total of 17
students.This research consists of problems, research objectives, methods,
research findings and conclusions. This study focused on students' ability to write
descriptive text. Descriptive text is included in the type of text that is not too
difficult but there are still some difficulties faced by students when writing this
essay, this is the background for the researcher to conduct this research. In
collecting data, the researcher used a written test as the instrument. The
components analyzed are vocabulary, mechanics and organization. The researcher
analyzed students' writing ability based on five categories: very good, good,
moderate, sufficient, poor. This research was conducted in class VIII SMP Negeri
2 Percut Sei Tuan .The results of this study illustrate that students experience
difficulties in the vocabulary component and still use Indonesian vocabulary.
Likewise in mechanics and student organizations it is still difficult
