Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of disruptive classroom behaviors and investigate the teacher's techniques to control disruptive behaviors in the teaching- learning process in the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 7 Medan. A
descriptive qualitative design was used in this study. The data were collected for two meetings/30 minutes with a female teacher in the tenth grade of SMA Negeri
7 Medan. This study found eight types of students’ disruptive classroom behaviors based on Charles’s theory, and the researcher stated talking out of turn
was dominated during the teaching-learning process. This type had the highest percentage (22%). This study also found that the teacher used four techniques to control students' disruptive behaviors in the classroom based on Cruickshank,
Jenkins, and Metcalf’s theory. The researcher stated mild desist (31,4%) was dominated technique that the teacher used to control students’ disruptive classroom behaviors in this teaching-learning process.
