Abstract

The objectives of this study were to know how reciprocal teaching strategy is used in teaching reading analytical exposition text and to know teacher’s difficulties in using reciprocal teaching strategy in teaching reading analytical
exposition text. The study was conducted using descriptive qualitative method, and English teacher of SMA Negeri 9 Medan was the subject of this study. The data collection technique were observation and interview. The results of the study displayed that the use of reciprocal teaching strategy was successful, which was implemented following the instructions from Oczkus (2018). It also found that there were difficulties faced by the teacher in using reciprocal teaching strategy, such as (1) the students have limited vocabulary. They translate the words that they want to say by writing them first by using dictionary or gadget, (2) the
students lack self-confidence to interact and appear as moderator because of difficulty to pronounce words in english, (3) the noise occurred in the class when students discussed the material.
