Abstract
This study aimed to describe the use of animation video in the teaching and learning process, especially in writing the descriptive text for eighth-grade students at SMPN1 Percut Sei Tuan. The data was collected by using records, depth interviews, and observing the processes of teaching writing descriptive text. The findings of this study showed the teacher only used four ways out of seven ways. The researcher used Berk's theory in analyzing the teacher’s way of using animation video in teaching descriptive text. There were reasons for using animation video in the teaching and learning process that had gotten from teachers’ interviews. Then based on the data, the reasons were to see and also hear the language in use, be more active, creative, attractive, motivated, and enjoyable. The findings of this study revealed that animation videos contributed to the study of foreign language teaching especially teaching writing.
