Abstract
Principally this research attempts to find out 1) the categories in illocutionary acts in the Instagram live interview, and 2) to explain the reason of usage illocutionary acts can be realized in that way they are. The research is done by qualitative research method. The research data are all linguistic features in interview transcription. The source of data is obtained from an Instagram live interview that broadcast simultaneously on two Instagram accounts, Miss Universe and Puteri Indonesia that conducted on May 14, 2020. The technique for collecting data is documentary, and the instrument is recorder. The data are analyzed by descriptive. The results of the research show that 1) there are 36 utterances of illocutionary acts that can be classified into five categories: Representative, Expression, Directive, Commissive, and Declaration. 2) based on the realization conveyed and expressed by Miss Universe and Puteri Indonesia, each category has a specific purpose and function, by explaining and interpreting every utterance spoken by the two speakers are able to realize the five categories through general or maxim principles which the interpretation consist of maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner
