Abstract
The objective of this research to knowing the effect of the Project Based Learning model on students' science process skills and knowing the activity of students' science process skills by applying the Project Based Learning model to Optical Tools material. The research method used is quantitative research with quasi experiment non-equivalent control group design. The population in this research were all students of class XI IPA SMA Negeri 8 Medan. The sample was chosen through purposive sampling. The experimental class was composed of 30 students from class XI IPA 4, while the control class consisted of 30 students from class XI IPA 5. Data collection in this research was carried out by using pretest, posttest and Observation sheet. The reslut can be seen that the average pretest score of students in the experimental class of 47,3 and the average posttest score of 81,33, while in the control class the average student pretest score was 46,6 and the average score was posttest average of 70,33. From the results sample is normally and homogenous because ������<������ and ������<������ or 1.25<1.13. The student activity score reached 35 score, so it can be concluded that the project based learning (PjBL) model on Otical Tools material has an effect on increasing the students' science process skills.
