Abstract
This study aims to determine: (1) learning independence of class tenth students of Putra Anda Binjai Vocational High School; (2) students' ability to make garnishes; (3) the relationship between students' learning independence and the ability to make garnishes. The study was conducted at Putra Anda Binjai Vocational High School, located on Jl. Samanhudi No. 20 F, Binjai City, North Sumatra Province with a population of 62 students and the sample of this study was 31 students. Research data collection techniques were carried out using questionnaires and assessment rubrics. The learning independence questionnaire that has been declared valid using a Likert scale and rubric of the ability to make garnishes has been adjusted to the theories in this study. Data analysis was performed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Technique using SPSS 24 for Windows application. The results showed that the level of learning independence tendency of class tenth students of Putra Anda Binjai Vocational High School was in the quite category as many as 16 students (52%). The level of tendency in the ability to make garnish from carrots in class tenth students of Putra Anda Binjai Vocational High School was in the category of less as many as 26 people (94%). Meanwhile, based on the Pearson product moment correlation test results showed that there was no significant relationship between learning independence (X) with the ability to make garnishes from carrots (Y) on class tenth students of Putra Anda Binjai Vocational High School with a correlation coefficient of 0.301> 0.355.
