Abstract
The creative thinking test instrument is rarely used in student assessment instruments. Eventhough creative thinking instruments are rarely used, it doesn't mean that students have low creative skills. It's just that they haven't been measured yet. To describe students'' creative thinking skills in Optical material. This research is qualitative descriptive research, research methods used in research is a qualitative method. Therefore, it can be concluded that descriptive research is research that is used to describe a phenomenon that is happening now and is actual. This research is used to provide an overview of the problem. Data were obtained from tests, interviews, observations, and documentation. The creative thinking skills of class XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Medan can be categorized as moderate and fairly good. Although there are some students with lower levels of creative thinking, it does not imply that they lack creativity, as creativity can be fostered through other activities. The aspect of fluency exhibits the highest average proportion among the characteristics of creative thinking, while the aspect of originality shows the lowest average proportion. It is necessary to apply various kinds of learning models that are applied to be able to improve students'' creative thinking skills. Although there are some students with lower levels of creative thinking, it does not imply that they lack creativity, as creativity can be fostered through other activities.
