Abstract
The purpose of this research was to develop English reading materials for
eleventh grade student of tourism vocational school at SMK Imelda Medan. This
research was conducted by using a Research and Development (R&D) design
process which consists of six stages: gathering the data, need analysis, design
materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. The grade XI
student’s tourism study program of SMK Pariwisata Imelda Medan are the subject
of this research. The data that used in this researcher were collected by conducting
interview to the English teacher and questionnaires that were distributed to XI
grade students. Questionnaires were distributed to 30 students to gather the
students’ need. The developed materials were validated by two experts using
material validation instrument. The instrument that used by the experts was the
questionnaires that adapted from BSNP. The first validator gave it a 91 percent
score, while the second validator gave it a 92 percent score, indicating that it was
relevant.
