Abstract
Most of the time students spent are in school. Student engagement becomes a key for the way of a better learning process. Students who show positive academic achievement results are students who have high engagement in school and vice versa. The emergence of boredom in learning, being passive during learning, and lack of focus on learning is a form of low student engagement. Therefore this research aims to find the direct and indirect effect of self-efficacy and social support toward student engagement on economics subject with the academic flow as the intervening variable for students in SMA Negeri 1 Pancur Batu. The research method used in this study is quantitative. Data collection techniques used were documentation and questionnaires using 6-Point Likert-Type Scales. The population in this study were 321 students of SMA Negeri 1 Pancur Batu class XI and XII IIS students. And the samples obtained were 178 students. Analysis technique used in this research was the path analysis technique with the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) approach using the
statistical tool of SmartPLS 3.0. The results showed that: (1) there is a positive and significant direct effect of self-efficacy, social support, and academic flow toward student engagement on economics subject. (2) there is a positive and significant indirect effect of selfefficacy
and social support on student engagement through academic flow as an intervening variable. Thus, it is clear that academic flow has succeeded in becoming a mediator variable that mediates the indirect effect between selfefficacy
and social support toward student engagement on economics subject. The success of this research in providing solutions to educational problems and the small number of studies that make academic flow as a mediating variable on economics subject is the novelty of this research as well as suggestions for further researches.
