Abstract
The existence of English in this era of globalization has caused the phenomena of code swicthing in everyday communication. The language also tends to change according to the conditions of the times. This study produced knowledge of code switching utterances in the webinar which was analyzed from the point of view of the social context. The purpose of this study is to find empirical support between social context and its use in code switching utterances in webinar. This research applied a qualitative research with a content analysis design. The research source was webinars that were transcribed into texts as data and analyzed using Data Reduction, Data Display, and Drawing Conclusion or Interpretation. Based on the analysis, code switching in webinars occurred because there is no equivalent words or language to express the source language to the target language so that the speakers switch from one language into other language. The webinars are about technology and information technology webinars and it was found that the code switching utterances refer to the use of language in technology terms. There are eleven social context elements namely the first person or speaker, the second person or interlocuter, colors of emotion, the purpose of the conversation, speech order, the topic being discussed in the conversation, speech medium, tones and situation of speech, speech scene, speech register or genre, and rules or linguistic norms. The forms of code switching in webinars occurred in external code switching. In this case, all the code switching utterances applied Bahasa Indonesia and English in webinars. The factors underlying the code switching in the webinar are lack of facility, to emphasize a point and to attract attention.
