Abstract
This research dealt with the use of the Flipped Classroom Model in reading
comprehension. The aims of this study were: (1) to know the type of Flipped
Classroom Model used on student’s reading comprehension at SMA Negeri
Unggul Binaan Bener Meriah (2) to investigate the Flipped Classroom Model
used on student’s reading comprehension specifically analytical exposition text.
This study used descriptive qualitative design. The data were collected by
observation, interview, and documentation. The findings of this study revealed
that: (1) the type of Flipped Classroom Model that has been used is dominated by
Traditional flipped type. (2) The Flipped Classroom Model on student’s reading
comprehension used two main stages, which are outside the classroom and inside
the classroom. Outside the classroom the teacher prepared Power Point Slides
(PPT) and video consist of analytical exposition text material and the materials
shared to the students by utilizing Whatsapp group as the online media. Inside the
classroom, the teacher reviewed the online materials that were already shared in
prior to the classroom session followed by guiding and monitoring the
collaborative work. Meanwhile, regarding the students’ reading comprehension
found that students did not reach the learning indicators of the reading skill.
However, all the stages and activities in the Flipped Classroom Model used has
reached the remember and discussion stages. Finally, it is recommended that other
researchers deeply explore the use of Flipped Classroom Model for other topics
and skills, and apply other frameworks suggested by other experts.
