Abstract
The aim of this study is to describe the first grade students' ability in writing
descriptive text at SMA Nurul Iman Tanjung Morawa by using Dirgeyasa’s
rubric. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The
data in this study were taken from students’ writing descriptive text. The result of
this research showed that the students’ ability in writing descriptive text is good.
From 19 students there are 6 students who belong to Excellent category (the score
80-100) or 32 %, 2 students belong to Very good category (the score 66-79) or
10%, 2 students belong to Good category (the score 56-65) or 10%, 3 students
belong to Fair category (the score 46-55) or 16%, and 6 students belong to Poor
category (the score 0-45) or 32%. The findings of this study also showed that
from nine indicators in assessing students’ writing where the first, third, fifth, and
seventh indicator belongs to fair category, the second and fourth indicator belongs
to good category, the sixth, eight, and ninth indicator belongs to poor category.
