Abstract
This study was aimed to see the role of translation use in teaching reading text for grade X at SMA N 1 Tigalingga. This research was held when the corona virus pandemic was happening in Indonesia. The policy given by the government to limit physical interaction make the learning system must be implemented online. The process of teaching and learning process at SMA N 1 Tigalingga was finally carried out online, as well as for English, but still trying to meet face to face once a week in compliance with health protocols. From this research, it was found that translation played an important role in supporting teaching and learning activities. Translation help the teacher to make students understand the explanation that is being given. Reasons such as students' low vocabulary, differences in understanding in the dictionary with the reading context and to keep students focused on learning concluded that the use of translation in teaching reading text is very important.
