Abstract
This study aimed at discovering (1) the types of metaphor used in Edensor novel
(2) the way how the metaphor were realized in the novel (3) the reason why the
metaphors were used in the way they were. This research was conducted by
applying descriptive qualitative method.The data of this study were the
metaphorical expressions found in Edensor novel. The data were collected by
documentary technique and the instrument of data collection was documentary
sheet. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative analysis. The
results of this study were (1) there were three types of metaphor used in the novel
namely conceptual, poetic and conventional metaphor. The most dominantly used
was conceptual metaphor (60%); (2) there were four metaphorical procecess
found in the novel namely deification, personification, animalification and
reification. The most dominantly used was reification (40%); (3) there were four
reasons the writer used metaphorical expression in the novel namely explaining,
describing, expressing and entertaining. The most dominantlyn used was
describing (47%).
