Abstract
The study deals with Semiotic Interpretation of Artifacts in Javanese Panggih Manten Ceremony in response to The Verbal Text. The objectives of the study were to find out kinds and meaning of symbol used in Panggih Manten ceremony. The research method of this study used qualitative research. The data of this study were the artifacts on Panggih Manten ceremony. The sources of the data got from interviewed two informants who known as Pranatacara and Panyandra text. The result showed semiotic of the materials on Panggih Manten Ceremony. The data were analyzed by using Peirce’s theory. The researcher found 13 kinds of artifacts that are symbol in Panggih Manten ceremony. Each of the symbols that were used on Panggih Manten ceremony have different meaning. These differences have given different interpretation. The realization of meaning of the artifacts are static, displayed with verbal text, and for consumed or worn. The use of artifacts in Panggih Manten ceremony have 3 reasons, they are happiness, guidance, and hope.
