Abstract
This study aims to 1) knowing the level of student ability in problem solving creative thinking in problem-based learning, 2) knowing students' answer sheets in the problem-solving process with the application of problem-based learning, 3) knowing students' difficulties in solving creative thinking problems in the application of problem-based learning at SMP Negeri 35 Medan. This research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class IX-8 SMP Negeri 35 Medan for the academic year 2020/2021, totaling 31 people. The object of this research is the creative thinking ability of students who are given a problem-based learning model. Based on data analysis, the level of mathematical creative thinking ability of 30 students with very low creative thinking ability is 6.45%, low creative thinking ability is 25.8%, medium creative thinking ability is 45.18%, high creative thinking ability is 16 ,12%, and very high creative thinking ability is 6.45%. Analysis of the difficulties of the mathematical creative thinking process in this study, namely the ability to provide many ideas, the ability to solve problems from different perspectives, the ability to solve problems in their own way, and the ability to develop or detail a situation in detail. Thus, learning by applying problem-based learning models, especially in mathematical creative thinking skills, provides opportunities for students to explore various kinds of answers and methods by paying attention to aspects of fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration.
