Abstract
The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar, aiming to develop contextual teaching materials and improve learning outcomes and student character values in acid-base chemistry subjects. The type of this research is R&D (Research and Development) with the ADDIE research model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The development of teaching materials is based on the BSNP standard, with the results of content feasibility 4.66, language feasibility 4.4, presentation feasibility 4.48, the feasibility of the graphic 4.75 and the contextual aspect 4.33 with valid criteria so that the teaching materials can be implemented. This study uses two classes, where one is an experimental class and one is a control class. Class XI PMIA-1 as an experimental class uses contextual teaching materials that have been developed, while class XI PMIA-2 as a control class uses handbooks provided by the school as a learning resource. Questions that have been validly tested on students get an average pretest score of 46.5 and an average posttest score of 76. The results of the first hypothesis test are learning outcomes, the table is obtained from table t, where α=0,05 and db=n-1=20-1=19 which is 2,024 and t_count=9.704. The results of the second hypothesis test, namely the character value, the table obtained t_count=10,639. Then tcount>ttable, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted. So based on research, learning with contextual-based acid-base teaching materials is effective for improving student learning outcomes and student character values. The result of the third hypothesis test is known that the calculated rcount is 0,556 while the rtable is 0.444 (α = 5%), meaning that the calculated rcount is higher than the rtable value (0,556> 0.444). This is means that there is a positive relationship and have a enough level of relationship between learning outcomes and student character values after using contextual teaching materials.
