Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability to write drama texts in class VIII students of SMP N 35 Medan. The population of this study was all students of class VIII SMP N 35 Medan in the 2019/2020 learning year. For this study, 32 students of class VIII-3 were taken through random sampling technique. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive research methods. The data collection technique in this study was the documentation of the student worksheets. The research instrument used was a drama text writing test. The content of this study is to analyze how the ability to write drama texts based on aspects of the theme, character / characterization, plot / plot, setting, mandate, language or dialogue in the drama text of class VIII students of SMP N 35 Medan. The results showed that the ability of class VIII students of SMP N 35 Medan in writing drama texts was classified into the good category with an average score of 72.This result was obtained based on each aspect, the theme aspect was in the sufficient category (67), the character / characterization was in the good category ( 77), plot / plot in good category (73), setting / setting in good category (77), mandate in good category (70), language or dialogue in good category (77). Based on the distribution table of the percentage value of the ability to write drama texts of class VIII students of SMP N 35 Medan, it shows that the category is very good (25%), good category (28%), moderate category (22%), and poor category (19%) and very poor absent (6%). Through this research, it is hoped that Indonesian language teachers can find out the ability of students to write, especially in writing drama texts, after knowing the students' abilities, the teacher can further improve the effectiveness of learning to write drama texts.
