Abstract
The research dealt with speech functions. Speech functions can be defined as meaning addressed to the participants conveying the roles taken and commodity given. Role consists of giving and demanding, and commodity consists of information or goods and services. This study was aimed at investigating: (1) to the types of speech functions used by online shopping frauds on Instagram (2) to describe how the speech functions realized in mood (3) to elaborate the reason why the speech functions realized in mood as the way they are. This study was conducted in a qualitative research. The data were the clauses of speech function used by fraudster on Instagram. In order to identify the speech function used by online shopping fraud on Instagram, Halliday (2014) framework of types and realization of speech function was used. The findings of this study revealed that: (1) the types of speech functions that have been found used by fraudster on Instagram are statement, question, command, and minor. The most dominant speech function found is statement. The fraudster used statement is utilized 65 times (or 69.9% of the time), it indicates that the main function of the online shopping interaction used by fraudster is giving information. The fraudster must describe their product, he/she has to provide their best service so that the consumer deal to buy and pay immediately. (2) For the realization of speech functions of fraudster, there are two ways that have been found in realization of speech functions of fraudster in mood, namely, typical clause mood (congruent), and non-typical clause mood (incongruent or metaphor). (3) For the reason in realization of speech function of fraudster on instagram in this study, the researcher found because of situational context that is tenor. This point of view see the power is unequal power. The consumer has a power to to decide whether they agreed to buy something or not. The situation or formality of the interactions is informal situation. The affect in the conversation between fraudster and consumer shows negative because the consumers was angry because they had been tricked. And the contact of the interaction is infrequent because they have not ever do interaction before.
