Abstract
Learning requires supporting devices to support the success of teaching and learning activities, one of which is by choosing learning media that is in accordance with the material being taught. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Media Spoon on the ability to write poetry in class X SMA Negeri 16 Medan in the 2019/2020 academic year. The population of this study were all class X students of SMA Negeri 16 Medan in the 2019/2020 learning year which consisted of 11 classes with a total of 383 students. The samples taken were class X MIA 1 and X MIA 2 with a total of 30 students each. The method used is a quantitative research method with an experimental form involving two classes given different treatments and descriptive research with the Two Group Post-test Design type test in the experimental group and the control group. The results of the study were 1) The post-test mean score of the control class students was 66.47 with a sufficient category and did not meet the KKM determined by the school which was 75, the students' poetry writing skills used the discovery method without media which was included in the very good category. there is or 0%, the category is either 2 students or 6.67%, the sufficient category is 12 students or 40%, the category is less than 9 students or 30%, and the category is very lacking 7 students or 23.3%. 2) the post-test average score of the experimental class students was 82.76 in the good category and had fulfilled the KKM. The ability of students to write poetry using Spoon media which is included in the very good category is 3 students or 10%, the good category is 19 students or 63%, the sufficient category is 8 students or 27%, the category is less than 0 students or 0%. 3) After the calculation of the normality test Lhitung> Ltabel at the significant level, the results of the normality test of the post-test control class data are (0.1069 <1.161), the result of the normality test of the post-test data for the experimental class is (0.0731 <1.161). So, it can be concluded that learning using spoon media is effective on the ability to write poetry of class X SMA Negeri 16 Medan in the 2019/2020 learning year.
