Abstract
This study aims to analyze how the use of the Learning log strategy in writing on Recount text in SMP NEGERI 35 Medan. The sampling technique used was random sampling. Subjects involved in this study were students of class VIII-1 that total 30 students. Data taking was done using learning log classes, questionnaires, interviews and important field notes. Data analysis was carried out by recapitulating the results of student responses in the Learning log class related to the indicators achieved and
that had not been achieved by students in recount text learning, as well as reviewing students' learning problems revealed through the results of analysis in the Learning log class. The results of the study show that learning log classes can explain students' learning problems. The advantages of learning log classes are being able to uncover students 'learning problems and background difficulties, can measure concepts or sub
concepts that are considered difficult for students, as feedback on students' abilities, involving students in the assessment process. The teacher gives positive responses about the application of the learning log class because it is easy to implement and can help students in learning. Students also feel helped by the learning log class because it can be an alternative strategy for student self reflection.
