Abstract
This study aimed to describe the use of Pechakucha in teaching speaking procedure text process by using Pechakucha media and investigate the students’ responds toward Pechakucha for the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Medan in the academic year of 2019/2020. This study was descriptive qualitative research
conducted to two English teachers of SMAN 2 Medan. The data of this study were collected by teachers’ observation and interview to the process of teaching speaking procedure text by using Pechakucha and students’ observation and interview based on the whole process of learning speakinrocedure text toward
the Pechakucha used by the teachers. The result of observation and interview of the teachers proved that the use of Pechakucha as media by the first teacher (UNP) in teaching speaking procedure text for XI MIPA 1 class was 94% and the use of Pechakucha as media by the second teacher (SN) in teaching speaking procedure text for XI IPS 1 class was 85%. Moreover, the result of observation and interview of the students proved that the use of Pechakucha as media in learning speaking procedure text in XI MIPA 1 class was 91% and the use of
Pechakucha as media in learning speaking procedure text in XI IPS 1 class was 84%. The findings showed that the teachers used Pechakucha by following the rules in using Pechakucha with a good performance. It showed that Pechakucha helped teachers to teach speaking procedure text by using innovative and interesting non-conventional media and successfully stimulate the students’ speaking responses in the class. It also found that students were easily invited to explore their ideas on the issues discussed by using this media. The findings of this study revealed that Pechakucha as effective and appropriate media contributed to the study of foreign language teaching to be used in teaching speaking skill, particularly procedure text.
