Abstract
The objective of the research is to study the correlation between grammar and vocabulary mastery with comprehension of expository texts. In line with the objectives of the research, there are three hypotheses of the research :(1) Grammar mastery (X1) positively and significantly correlates with comprehension of expository texts (Y); (2) Vocabulary mastery (X2) positively and significantly correlates with comprehension of expository texts (Y); (3) Both grammar (X1) and vocabulary (X2) mastery simultaneously and significantly correlate with comprehension of expository texts (Y). The research was conducted at the English 4IF Department of Teacher Training Faculty, Samudera Langsa University. The 111sample of the research was the fifth semester students of 2008-2009 academic year with n = 30 taken randomly from 90 students. The tests were used as theinstruments to collect the data that were then analyzed using the correlation and regression statistics. The results of the research shows positive correlation between (1) grammar mastery with comprehension of expository texts. The correlation is 0.702 and Y = 12.36 + 0.46 X1 (2) vocabulary mastery with 11111 comprehension of expository texts. The correlation is 0.515 and Y = 8.85 + 0.49X2 (3) grammar and vocabulary mastery with comprehension of expository texts.The correlation is 0.842 and Y = 52.61 + 0.45 Xi+ 0.44 X2. The results of thisresearch will hopefully be an advantage to the Faculty
