Abstract

The problem of this research is the low learning outcomes of chemistry in
XI grade in SMAN 1 Tebing Tinggi. This research aimed is to find out the
influence of discovery learning model using power point media toward students’
learning outcome in grade XI on salt hydrolysis topic in SMA Negeri 1 Tebing
Tinggi.The research was conducted in senior high school student grade XI in
SMAN 1 Tebing Tinggi. The population of this research is all students of SMAN
1 Tebing Tinggi grade XI at academic year 2017/2018. Amount of student in
grade XI are 306 students consist of 9 classes and sample was taken by purposive
sampling. The first class as experimental class taught by discovery learning using
power point media and second class as control class use direct instruction. The
data collection technique used to measure learning outcomes in form of multiple
choices test of 20 questions. Technique of data analysis that used is normalized
gain, normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis test. The result of data
analysis obtained by the average value of the pretest and posttest learning model
of discovery using power point media is 25.00 and 77.83 with a standard
deviation is 7.31 and 8.27 and value of pretest and posttest using direct
instruction is 22.83 and 53.50 with standard deviation is 8.27 and 9.016. The
research hypothesis were tested by t-test (one tail) the value of tcount is 11.53 and
ttable 1.67 at significant level 95 % and α 0.05, it means tcount > ttable (11.53 > 1.67)
so the hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that there is significant
influence in student’s learning outcome taught by Discovery Learning Model
using Power Point Media with student’s learning outcome taught by direct
instruction on salt hydrolysis topic in XI grade.
