Abstract
The objectives of this study were to find out the types and to investigate causes of grammatical errors in students’ writing. The study used qualitative descriptive method. The population of the study of procedure text 29 students from the grade IX of Mts Guppi Bintang Bayu. The number of subjects was taken from class IX-B. The technique of data collecting was by giving written test to students. The students were instructed to make procedural text about how to make something or how to get to the place. After analyzing the data, the researcher found 4 types of grammatical errors made by the students, those are; omission, addition, wrong selection, and ordering. Based on the 4 types of grammatical errors, there were two causes of errors found in students writing, those are; interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer. The result of the study showed that there are so many errors found on students’ procedure writing. The analysis showed that the most common type of errors made by the students is wrong selection (40.21%). From the data analysis was found that the main cause of errors is Intralingual transfer (82.60%).
