Abstract
This study was aimed to investigate types of politeness strategies used by the English teacher in the classroom, and to elaborate the reasons politenes strategies realized by the english teachers in the classroom. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative research. The source of the data were two english
teachers of class VII and VIII in Yayasan Perguruan Kristen Hosana Junior High School. The data collection technique were video recording and interviewing. The
data were analyzed using data descriptive. The findings of the result were that: (1) there were four of politeness strategies, namely: Bald on Record 19, Positive,Politeness 11, Negative Politeness 4 and Off Record 4. (2) Bald on Record was realized because it made close relationship between teachers and students,
Positive Politeness was realized because to give respect to the students during teaching learning process, Negative Politeness was realized to maintain closer
friend among them, and Off Record realized by English teacher to give the students opportunity to be seen to care for the teacher said.
