Abstract
The aims of this study were to find out the types of interpersonal function in teachers scaffolding talk for Grade XI of MAS Proyek Univa Medan. This study focused on the types and the realization interpersonal function of teacher’s utterances in scaffolding talk. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative design. The data were taken by using video recording and the transcript of teacher utterances were the transcribing of video within the topic of narative text and conditional sentence. Based on the analyisis of data, a) it was found that there were four types interpersonal function in teachers scaffolding talk namely: statement, questions, offer, command. (b) the realization of the dominant type of interpersonal based on the observation and interviewing the teacher was the statement that realized in declarative and can be realized to stated politness. The question was realized in interrogative and can be realized in offer, command and also politeness.
