Abstract
This study focuses on the analysis of types and causes of error in student’s analytical exposition written text. The method of this study was descriptive qualitative research. The data was taken from 17 students of eleventh grade students of SMK ERIA Medan major in Accountancy. The instrument used for collecting the data was student’swritten test in writing analytical exposition text. The data were analyzed by identifying the three types of error in writing and the causes of error. The result of the analysis shows that: the seventeen students major in accountancy of SMK ERIA Medan made 417 (100%) errors in writing analytical exposition text. The types of error were grammatical error with 72 errors or 17, 3%, lexical error with 64 errors or 15,3%, and error in writing mechanics with 281 errors or 67,4%. The dominant error made by the students in writing analytical exposition text was error in writing mechanics ( 281 cases or 67,4%). The causes of error made by the eleventh grade students of SMK ERIA Medan major in Accountancy were Interlingual transfer with 45 errors or 13,9%, Intralingual transfer with 344 errors or 78,7%, Context of Learning with 22 errors or 6,2%, and Communicating Strategies with 5 errors or 1,2%. The Intralingual transfer was found as the dominant causes of student’s error in writing analytical exposition text as the cause of students ignorance of rules restriction, application of incomplete rules, and false concept hypnotized.
