Abstract
This study dealt with the transitivity system of onang –onang in Batak Angkola. The objectives of this research were to find out types of transitivity and to describe the way how transitivity was realized in onang – onang of Batak Angkola. This study was conducted by descriptive qualitative research. The data of this study were the utterances of onang – onang in Angkolanese wedding ceremony. The subjects of this study were the participant who performed in galanggang of Manortor (stage) and paronang –onang (singer) who delivered utterances of onang –onang. Tape recorder and camera were used by the researcher as the instrument to collect the data. The data were analyzed based on Creswell (2003), The findings showed that part of transitivity system shown in every onang – onang of Batak Angkola, the process, participant and circumstance were in every onang –onang of Batak Angkola. The domination of processes was balanced between Mental and Relational process. Mental process frequently used in onang –onang of Namora Pule and Anak Boru while relational process dominated in utterances of Suhut and Mora. The most appeared participant was senser, while circumstance is circumstance of location which caused most of the utterances in onang – onang Batak Angkola used time and place when they gave their expression. The congruent realization shown in all types of processes, unlikely incongruent realization which had no verbal and existential processes on its analysis.
