Abstract

This study is a descriptive qualitative research which aimed to evaluate the English summative test items based on higher order thinking skills of Revised Bloom’s taxonomy for grade XII at SMA Swasta Nasrani 1 Medan. The data consisted of the existing English summative test items which were directly collected from the English teacher and analyzed based on the higher order thinking skills according to Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. Based on the data analysis, the existing English summative test had not fulfilled the portion of Bloom’s higher order thinking skills and developed the students’ thinking skills. The findings implied that there were 2 levels of higher order thinking skills occurred in student summative test of SMA Nasrani 1 Medan, they were analyzing (17.5%) and evaluating skill (2.5%), however there was no items on the level of creating skill.The higher order thinking skills used in this smmative test of reading comprehension text could only test the analyzing and evaluating skill in determining the meaning of text relates one of another and make a judgement based on criteria and standards thourgh checking and critiquing.
